Description
An 1930s style deco design beaded silk evening blouse. The blouse has a deco "batwing" design with wide dolman sleeves that is further highlighted by the lines of gold bugle and white pearly beads that radiate out from the low V front and back neckline to the cuff of the 3/4 length wide dolman sleeves and across the shoulders and upper part of the bodice front and back where offers they end in small swirls of the pearly beads edged with tiny silver seed beads. The lower part of the blouse has a inverted fan pattern of iridescent black beads punctuated with sequins which gives the blouse glitter. The sleeve cuffs and hemline are edged with a gold bugle beads. The neckline is edged with gold bugle beads and pearly beads, and the blouse goes on over the head with no fastenings. The overall effect is very art deco. There are no shoulder pads and this loose fitting silk top drapes beautifully with the wide batwing dolman sleeves. The silk fabric of the blouse is a semi-sheer chiffon and would benefit from a camisole underneath. The label is "SequinsQueen". The measurements (approximate) are
bust (pit to pit) 44" (wider because of the dolman sleeves)
waist 38"
hips 44"
shoulder to hem 25"
sleeve inseam 8" (approximate because of dolman sleeves)
These measurements are roughly equivalent to a US size L. The label states that the blouse is 100% silk and it was made in India, where it would have been hand beaded. The blouse was probably made in the 1980s, but it has all the elements of a 1930s style evening blouse - the deco design with the batwing sleeves and the radial pattern of beads and faux pearls, and the lush silk fabric with its beautiful drape. There are no major condition issues with the blouse. There are no holes or stains on the black silk chiffon that I could find. However, this vintage top that is approximately 35 years old, and there may be some minor signs of age related wear. There is some minor bead loss - a small line of bugle beads missing along the neckline and a few pearls missing in the drape of one of the sleeves - both areas difficult to see unless you look for them and are shown in the photographs. Most of the beads and faux pearls in the pattern are intact, which is important for the deco look of the design. The tunic is clean and fresh (although I did not launder it) and ready to wear to a 30s or deco themed event or any dressy event where a unique, glittering evening blouse would be required. This blouse would beautifully complement a gold or black evening skirt, or a pair of black palazzo pants (not included).
