Antique Ostby & Barton Ring Sterling Silver offers Natural Chalcedony Picture dendritic Moss Agate early 1900s Art Deco Edwardian size 4.75
♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
This lovely antique ring was made by Ostby & Barton from sterling silver with a polished Agate gemstone ~
Ostby & Barton was established in 1879 in Providence, Rhode Island, and within 20 years they had become the largest ring manufacturer in the US. Today, Ostby offers & Barton is well known among collectors of antique jewelry, in part because of their beautiful workmanship and also due to that fateful night on April 10, 1912 when the RMS Titanic collided with an iceburg. Mr. Ostby had been traveling in Paris with his daughter and by chance booked their return passage aboard the Titanic. His daughter survived, but before boarding the lifeboat, Mr. Ostby ran back to his stateroom to grab some warmer clothing and was one of the 1500 people who perished on the Titanic...a sad twist of fate yet one that has given his jewelry historical significance, making it all the more rare and collectible.
With this ring, you will own a piece of history. Marked OB sterling on the inside shank, it is elegant and beautifully made with a rectangular bezel decorated with silver beading around the edge, embellished with silver flowers and leaves on the shoulders, and set with a luminous cabochon agate gemtone. Often called Moss Agate or a picture agate, technically it's chalcedony with inclusions of manganese and/or iron. No two of these stones are alike which makes this ring truly one-of-a-kind ♡
It's in excellent condition with minimal signs of age/wear. The stone is secure in its setting, and the silver shows a little pitting / tarnish but could be polished if desired or just appreciated for its lovely antique patina ♡
Fits a US ring size 4.75 with a total weight of 3.3 grams and measures approximately 1/2" east to west and a little over 5/8" north to south across the face of the ring. It comes gift-boxed and ships via USPS fully insured...will be wrapped with care and mailed within one business day ♡
