offers Beautiful pair of antique hand painted plates by Copeland & Garret, England. These plates are pale yellow with white plaques around the edges. These plaques are surrounded by am embossed leaf and scroll border, accented in gold. Each plaque is hand painted with a scene, which includes, Glenarm, Nalmer Castle, Loch of Monteath on one plate and Leven Castle, Loch Leven and Rievaulx Abbey on the other. The plates have a embossed scroll gold accented rim and gold center design.
Each plate measures 9 1/4" in diameter. Both are marked on the back with the Copeland & Garrett crown backstamp. On the back behind each scene is the name of the scene hand painted in red. Each plate is also numbered 6801 in red. Copeland & Garrett was only in business between 1833-1847.
Overall both plates are in excellent condition with some minor wear to the gold accenting and the center design. They are free of chips and cracks except for some very light wear on the base rings, which is expected for being nearly 200 years old.
