Suë offers & Mare - 'Chevrons' Coffee cup and Saucer- Art Deco design for Gallia Christofle

Very elegant Art Deco coffee cup and saucer, designed by SÜE and MARE, for GALLIA Christofle around 1925.
The refined 'Chevrons' design is a fine example of Art Deco design, inspired by cubism.

Condition is good, some wear from use and cleaning (photo 8), silver plating is intact.
Measurements: Cup: 9 cm Wide with handle x 7 cm Deep x 6.5 cm High. Saucer: 11.5 cm Wide x 1.5 cm High. Weight 245g.
Hallmarks and markings: oval hallmark with balance and CC for Christofle; the lettering and "O. GALLIA", and the model number "5968".

SÜE and MARE
LOUIS SÜE (1875-1968) & ANDRÉ MARE (1887-1932) were able to shape trends in the shift from Art Nouveau to Art Deco and beyond. Their designs, inspired by Cubism, excited the Paris Salon of the time and remain relevant even today. Working primarily as decorators and furniture designers, their art had to be based on an alliance between the fine arts and the decorative arts.
Today, their designs are exhibited in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs du LOUVRE in Paris.
