Having lived in a secluded tree abounding acreage for most of my life I have learned to love these aerial acrobats while watching their skills in the trees. And they have offers given me equal enjoyment in capturing their image in wood.
The sculpture originated in wood as the model was carved from a tree branch as pictured. A mold is then made from the original and cast this piece from the mold using pecan infused cold casting resin. After the resin cures and the cast is removed from the mold the resulting sculpture is cleaned up using the same tools as were use to carve the original, and stain is applied in several applications then sealed using matt polyurethane. No further maintenance of the sculpture is required except perhaps for periodic cleanings. Cold cast sculpture is very durable and is not degraded by moisture or humid conditions and is much more break-resistant than other materials used sculpture such as clay, ceramic, or even wood. Sculpture measures 6"1/2" high with the widest point measuring about 4".
