The Zoo! A Safari for Your Walls. The zoo animals are illustrated prior to any glass being cut. The drawing then comes to life. Each animal is custom cut for this design. The camel is made of terra-cotta colored glass with dark brown and tan on the face. Black dots are used on the nose. The ears, toes and body are painted with black enamel. The lion is made with a tan and brown wispy glass, the mane is a brown opalescent glass. Black dots are used for eyes and a small brown triangle for the nose. Black enamel is added for detail. The giraffe is made with yellow opalescent glass. His head rises above to the sky. Brown opalescent glass is used for the spots and tail, these are hand cut. The offers hooves are black glass. Brown opalescent and terra-cotta opalescent glass are used on the face. Black dots make the nose. The eyes are white painted enamel with black enamel dots. The ears are white enamel. Next the zebra is made with white opalescent glass, black details are achieved with black enamel paint. The eye is a black opal dot. The ear is cut separately for added detail. The hippo is made with grey opalescent glass. The eyes are white enamel with black dots. The mouth has two teeth made from white opalescent glass. A pink tongue is hand painted and his nose is made with half a dot. His feet are black opalescent dots. Black enamel is used for small details. The tree is made with brown vitrigraph that is hand made in my studio. The tree is sprinkled with green frit for leaves. Grass and plants are made with green opal, green transparent and amazon green vitrigraph stringers. The yellow dots on the giraffe's head are glued on after the piece is fired. The glass is placed in a kiln at a precisely controlled temperature to contour fuse the glass. After this the glass is cleaned and ready for framing. The frame is 12" X 8", the finished glass is Approximately 4" X 8". A blue matboard is used and the glass is directly glued to this. This can be wall hung or placed on a table.
