A relief sculpture of a raven in flight. Hand cast and colored.

For many years I created sculptures of birds 'in the round' that is , very accurate lifesize woodcarvings. I won two world titles doing this. My work creating relief reproductions of ancient Egyptian and Chinese sculpture for the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto got me thinking and excited about the possibility of employing relief sculpture to depict birds.

Perhaps my favorite bird to depict. There is a deep magic to this animal which I can't explain except perhaps through art. Intelligence. Intent.

From my original sculpture in soft clay, I make a silicone mold which captures the tiniest detail.
Into this mold,liquid hydrostone plaster is cast. When the plaster cures the resulting sculpture is colored with special dyes.

This piece "Raven in Flight" is limited to an edition of 200. Why not "Send a Raven"?

There are imbedded wires on the back to hang the sculpture .
