I begin with taking an original photograph for the subject I want to print. I use the computer to separate the different colors in the photograph and add in any patterns. Using the silk screen process, I print the image onto masonite. Each print receives a protective coating which leaves a satin finish. My prints come framed in a hand crafted welded steel frame that we make start to finish here in my studio and we even include the nails and hanging hooks for your convenience. For those who prefer a more traditional look, we also offer a professionally crafted black solid wood frame. Each print comes signed, dated, and numbered by the artist as part of a limited run.
A Note from Charlie:
This print is a revisit to some of my favorite designs. I love this shot of the unaltered skyline and it resonates with many people as a feeling of “home”. I have used the damask pattern in many of my older prints so it was nice to bring it back in this to add some character and elegance in this print. I chose to use the golden yellow because it describes a offers perfect sunset over the city.
History of the Baltimore Skyline:
Described by the Urban Land Institue as “the model for post-industrial waterfront redevelopment around the world”, the Baltimore Inner Harbor in Maryland is a historic seaport with many attractions and is a landmark of the city. Not limited to the water front, the Inner Harbor includes the surrounding area of the city. Within walking distance of Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium, it is a hub of activity including award-winning parks, museums, festivals, shopping, hotels and entertainment. Many famous architects made their lasting mark on the city such as George A. Frederick, I. M. Pei, Benjamin Latrobe, John Russell Pope, including many more. Viewing the skyline, one can recognize the Trans America Building, Power Plant Live, Belvedere Hotel, Emerson Bromo-Seltzer Tower, Waterfront Marina, M&T Bank Building, National Aquarium, and many, many others. The damask pattern in the background incorporates an interesting and busy design onto the golden sky that compliments the land of pleasant living. The white softens the industrial feel of the buildings while the pattern contrasts the angles and sharp lines of the cityscape. Baltimore City really is a beautiful places and this print helps display that.
