This original oil painting is of the aspen trees out my studio window. I love the way that it captures the soft wintery light and long shadows of approaching dusk. The sun was just starting to set so I had only offers a brief window of time in which to complete this plein air painting. The time constraint lent it a spontaneous feel and loose style which I feel helped to convey the sense of a moment in time. I also love the incredible array of colors in this winter scene ranging from pale peaches and yellows to burnt oranges and rusts.

It is painted with Winsor and Newton Professional oil paint on a 8x10 inch canvas. The painting is extended onto the sides of the canvas so that you can hang it without a frame for a fresh contemporary look.
