I spent most of my life in northern Illinois, moving to Texas a little over a decade ago. I fell in love with the ocean and started making jewelry with the shells I find on the beaches here. You will notice that few of the shells used in my jewelry are perfect; in fact some are definitely just offers pieces of shell. I could buy “perfect” shells in a craft store, but the creatures that made them were raised in tanks. They never saw an ocean, never felt a wave. There's no energy, no “character” to them. All the shells I use I pick up on the beaches of Galveston Texas, they've been tossed by the waves, and kissed by the sun and the creatures who made them died naturally.
