Flora, the minor Roman goddess of flowers, fertility and spring. Flora was goddess of flowering or blossoming plants, particularly of wheat and other crops. Flora was the twin sister to Fauna, the goddess of animals and wildlife and was originally was called Sabine. Her Greek counterpart was Chloris.

The recent pandemic has made me think a lot about the Taino tribe of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. offers As I witness the earth heals itself from contamination I ponder about the close bond that the Tainos had with mother nature. I named this painting "El renacer de Flora" (the rebirth of Flora) in honor of the Roman Goddess of flowers but I chose to give it a Caribbean flair by transforming Flora into a young and beautiful Taina.

Tainos were the native tribal people that inhabited the Caribbean islands of the Antilles, mostly in Puerto Rico (Boriken), Haiti/Dominican Republic (La Hispaniola) and Cuba.
