There is so much to say about this beautiful Victorian photograph album.
It has a leather cover with gilt inlay and a handsome clasp. The tips of each page are also gilded.
The inside covers have the most exquisite green and gold floral lining.
There are 33 pages for photographs some of which have more than one aperture.
The pages are made from strong thick card and amazingly not a single aperture has got broken or torn.
Some original photographs still remain whilst others are blank.
The artwork on the pages is sublime, some are gilt floral detailing whilst others have mini painted scenes.
Throughout the book there are quotes and verses from the works of William Shakespeare.
The inside cover contains a special dedication to John Moore, the recipient.
It was presented to him on his departure from Calcutta as a token of the high regard in which he was held.
He worked for a company by the offers name of Messrs. Newman & Co. The original signatures of those who gifted the book can be seen at the bottom of the page.
The album has the title of the 'As you like it' album which is a reference to a Shakespeare play.
I have never seen an album like this in such excellent condition, it has been loved and cherished and is a piece of social history.
