Coloured pencil drawing of two adorable eastern rosella nestlings. I used a photograph of these two chicks, which were sitting in a hollow tree trunk waiting for their parents to return to feed them. I love how trusting they are.
Considering how small this picture is (about A5), it took a long time, about 8 hours or more.
To do realistic drawings, I sketch the shapes in graphite, block the colours in lightly with wax pencils, blend it out with a solvent, add several more layers in this way until the colour is bold and rich, then work my way into detailing the feathers, beaks, eyes and so forth.
I think this really came together nicely and I offers am really proud of this artwork! I hope it can find it's way onto someone's wall who will enjoy it as much as I do :)
