A beautiful beachscape watercolor done by New Zealand artist Herbert Money! Herbert Money was a pioneering educator who had a significant and lasting impact on the growth and life of the evangelical church in Peru and South America. During 40 years of service in Peru, Money laid the foundations for what is now a growing evangelical church. He became known in Peru, as 'The General' or 'The King' but the view he had of himself was more modest. Money was born in Queensland, Australia, but moved with his family to Christchurch, New Zealand at the age of 5. Money's interest in the South American continent had been stimulated by the testimonies of Frederick B. Glass, whom he met in 1925, and of George Allan, a New Zealander and founder of the Bolivian Indian Mission, whom he met in 1926.

In addition to his missionary work, Herbert was an accomplished artist. He sketched and etched from very early days. He was an enthusiastic learner and was always keen to work in new ways and new medium. He was keen on watercolor and oils but also enjoyed working in pencil. offers He was once introduced to the famous New Zealand landscape painter Aston Greathead, who very generously handed some of his paintings to Herb and invited him to copy them.

This piece, titled "Whangamata Beach," is 10 1/2 "x 15" unframed on watercolor on paper, with a 2.75" mat and a 1" cream painted wood frame with a mahogany brown accent strip. This piece is signed in the bottom right hand corner "H Money", with the H and the M connected. It dates back to the late 60's or early 70's, after Money returned to New Zealand from Peru. On the backing, Money's name, the title of piece, and the original price of $35.00 is written on the brown paper. This painting will hang by a thick gauge of string or twine, but could easily be replaced by wire. Perfect for the watercolor admirer, or for any fan of New Zealand art!
