This stunning Fostoria “American” pattern, sophisticated glass cake stand was one of the most successful patterns in tableware history! The “American” line was introduced in 1915 with production continuing until 1983. The Fostoria “American” line is elegant glass, and as such, quality is paramount and is defined by finish and clarity. Fostoria employed fire polishing which is essentially the reintroduction of a fresh piece of glass into the furnace to soften edges and smooth surfaces. Fostoria's elegant glass should look and feel silky and smooth. The ring around the bottom should be ground and smooth. Clarity, the other distinction, is dependent upon the glass formula used to produce molten glass. Fostoria called their uncolored “American” glass “crystal” so the highest quality "crystal American” pieces should resemble inert water.

This highly collectable piece is in pristine condition with no noticeable wear or flaws and its' color is crystal clear and luminous. This is a heavy and solid cake stand weighing nearly 8 pounds!
