Product code: Vintage 1910s Handkerchief Holder With Hankie, offers Antique Art Nouveau Filigree
Antique filigree handkerchief holder with included handkerchief. A deep dive down a rabbit hole on the history of these led me to date this as Art Nouveau and probably from the 1900s to 1910s. Its stunning. Originally this would have been hung from a ring and worn on the hand. The handkerchief would have had a dab of perfume placed on it and as the lady moved through a room it would waft the scent about. Lovely! Most of these had the hankie hung from a clip but this one is a little pouch with a hinged lid of filigreed silver metal. Its unmarked and does not appear to be sterling but may be plated. The chain has a spring clasp at the top where the ring would have been. There is a handkerchief inside that came with this when I acquired it but which I believe is a later addition. Measures about 8" long including offers the chain and about 3.25" at the widest. The hankie is 10" square, cotton with an embroidered rose, and has no labels. Near mint vintage condition on both, unless you count the mi.
