VICTORIAN Photo Swivel Mourning Sentiment offers Brooch ~ Antique Memento Mori Photo Pearl Gold White Glass Brooch ~ 1850s Rotating Photo Brooch

Exceptional and rare, Victorian Period, 1850-1870, gold plate, white glass, natural pearl, Taille d'epargne revolving/swivel photo mourning or sentiment brooch.
Antique photo brooches were given as tokens of affection or worn to memorialize a family member who had departed.
The wearer is able to rotate the center section in order to display either side. I always like to believe that a photo of a loved one could be worn closer to the heart.
The photograph is that of a gentleman who is attired and groomed in the fashion of the Mid-Victorian Period.
This fabulous memento mori piece measures 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 1/4" deep.
The outside gold plate circular, tube ring has tiny floral designs.
The rotating center section measures 1" in diameter x 1/4" deep.
One side is inset with what appears to be white glass with a gold floral, Taille d'epargne (Black Enamel Tracery) floral design. A natural pearl is set in the center.
The back of the rotating center section features a photo of a bewhiskered and offers dapper-dressed Victorian Gentleman.
Gold twisted rope design circles the outside rim of the swivel center.
The tube hinge, C-Clasp, and extended latch pin, as well as the gentleman's appearance, date this Antique Brooch to the 1850s-1870s.
Clasp is secure.
Excellent antique condition. No chips, fogging, or scratches on glass. Swivel section works well. Natural patina occurring over the last 140+ years is present. This piece has not been cleaned or polished.
