French knot by French knot, stitch by stitch and bead by bead, this regal flower came to life using a technique quite like pointillism - only done with threads rather than ink and paper, and it takes a bit longer to make a point!
This piece features:
+ Cream-colored, velvety suede cotton fabric background
+ Stitching done with white French knots of pearl cotton and fine, free-form embroidery; several layers of flat stitches form the petals' border of purples and lavenders.
+ Acrylic paint
+ Yellow, orange, red and gold glass, silver-lined seed beads - adding sparkle to the fibers as they accent the offers flower.
+ Free-form scallops of glass seed beads varying in size around the edge to create a more interesting white frame, malleable so you can adjust the way they extend from the hoop.
+ Hanger is made of transparent beads and artificial sinew
+ One-of -a-kind; signed and numbered
+ Measures 11" diameter
For the flower-lover, this highly-textured piece speaks in particular to those who love the color purple, and iris, of course.
(You can also see the other iris in this series of six on the opening page of my shop as individual pieces in different colors.)
