CONDITION:
This antique copper ladle shows offers patina primarily in the bowl--pockets of off-white, maroon, and light green. Because it is hand wrought there are impressions from pounding and soldering. Additional antique patina includes scratches, scuffs, and oxidation.
DESCRIPTION:
I have been researching antique ladles and thus far this copper tasting ladle appears to align with late 18th/early 19th Century French. What is particularly unique is the bowl-style--the inverted tortoise-style with the center "ridge line" and the oval ridge surrounding it, fundamentally dividing the spoon's base into two hemispheres.
This ladle would be considered a "tasting ladle", which is fundamentally different from a standard serving ladle in that the bowl is smaller and more shallow. This ladle has a thick handle and feels quite heavy/sturdy in one's hand.
The imprinted suns on the handle are slightly uneven, adding to the charm of this hand-made primitive serving tool.
