In true Art Nouveau fashion, a beautiful young woman holding an instrument and crowned with laurels entices us into her world. The organic lines flow around her penetrating eyes. On homage to the great Art Nouveau designer Mucha, this piece was handmade by the artist in her Pennsylvania studio.
The image was cut by hand of a single sheet of black paper. Piece is mounted on 1/8" foam board. The piece is 12" x 6". The piece is signed and dated.
Paper cutting has a long history all over the world. From German Scherenschnitte (using small scissors) and Ashkenazi paper cutting (using a knife) to paper cutting in Africa, China, and South America, many people over the centuries have contributed to this magical folk craft. Artist Margaret Herbener has taken the traditional paper cutting and introduced entirely new techniques to create a new medium.
