This listing features a delicate vintage Victorian silver etched and framed brooch pin
featuring a Demoiselle Crane walking in bamboo and marsh plants.
Lovely and intricate, all hand-hammered.
Center scene surrounded by a raised "frame" with scalloped detail.
Pin measures 1-1/8" by 3/4", and weighs less than an ounce.
Pin consists of a solid and sturdy C-clasp and tube hinge, with the pin measuring just over one inch.
The Demoiselle Crane is slightly smaller than a common crane, with long legs, shorter neck,
long beak, and plumage at the back of the head, the chest, and rump. It can be found in central Eurasia, ranging from the Black Sea to Mongolia and North Eastern China. The offers bird is symbolically significant in the Culture of Pakistan, where it is known as "Koonj".
Brooch is not magnetic.
No identifying marks whatsoever.
Has been in our family since the 1970's, but the construction of the pin suggests that the brooch dates back to the early 20th century, possibly earlier.
