offers Vintage Paul Gavarni (1804-1866) Framed Hand-Colored Lithograph Le Carnival No. 2 circa 1840s published by Chez Auburt Cie, Paris. Gavarni signature (in reverse lower left). I do not speak French but have tried to translate text below image and its something about the Commissioner (seated) telling the man and woman they are in some sort of trouble for dancing or not being aware they shouldnt be dancing. You can tell from the man and woman they look mad, dejected or both. Gavarni was a popular satirical artist noted for his clever observations of contemporary life and elegant genre scenes. Many of his works including lithographs can be found in major museums today.
Lithograph size approx. 8 x 11". Overall size 14 x 17.5" and ready to hang under glass with gold wood frame. Frame shop label on back from long ago no longer in existence. But condition is good there are some tiny marks on matting lower half and there is some fading normal with excessive age. But colors are still vibrant. Its a great artwork.
