French Antique Forged offers Iron Coopers Roughing Gouge, Stave and Wicket Axe or Broad Axe, Found And Flogged
French Antique Forged Iron Coopers Roughing Gouge, Stave and Wicket Axe or Broad Axe, found and flogged in France.
Fabulous antique tool from the early to mid 1800s, it was used by a cooper (or barrel maker) to finish the inside of large barrels, and because of the offers way it is oriented it was made for a left handed man.
The forged iron blade is deeply patinated, and is very beautiful. It retains it's original bone handle, which as you can see from the photos, is extremely worn. This knife has had a long innings, you can't imitate this look - it must be a rarity, we have never found one before.
Fabulous display item that would work well in a variety of locations, and a worthy addition to a collection.
Size - 13.75 inches long, blade is just over 4 inches wide at the end (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)
Condition: Used antique utilitarian item with age appropriate wear, see photos and description above.
Total weight - 0.9 kilos (2 pounds)
We combine shipping for multiple orders (where practical) and refund the savings.
