Antique hand-painted figural pitcher / jug from the 1930s, made by Burleighware of Staffordshire in England, depicting the romantic true story of the blacksmith's shop in Gretna Green, Scotland, where wedding ceremonies have been conducted since the 1700s. The underside is marked "Burleighware by Burgess and Leigh of Burslem, England, and the piece is titled "The Runaway Marriage A Romantic Couple Being Married By The Blacksmith of Gretna Green".
The pitcher stands about 22 cm (8.5") tall and 18 cm (7") wide, weighing 875 grams.
Considering its age, it is in excellent vintage condition, free of chips and cracks.
