1970s Velga Jansons Studio Pottery offers bowl - Vintage hand thrown pottery

offers The bowl is very thick and heavy and measures 9" in diameter. It is in excellent vintage condition. Velga Jansons was a Latvian-Canadian. She served in the Latvian underground fighting Russian Communists in the second world war. She started making pottery in Canada around 1964, and passed away in 2019. Velga developed a custom body clay from which her works were rendered. The rich, reddish brown stoneware of this bowl is covered in a drip style glaze. Pieces by Velga are are rare find. Her son Peter Jansons is also a potter and owns The Dunes Studio Gallery & Café on Prince Edward Island.
