Rare Memory of Japan Lighter and Cigarette Case - Blue Enamel Design - Mt Fuji, Cherry Blossoms - Working Vintage offers Lighter

This vintage lighter and cigarette case was most likely made in the 1950s-1960s. They were made in many designs as souvenirs for military members stationed in Japan and the Pacific Islands, during or after the Korean War. The lighter and cigarette case feature an engraved map of Japan and Korea, showing the 38th parallel, with Mt. Fuji in the background surrounded by cherry blossoms and iconic Japanese architecture. Some of the engraved lines are painted in gold to highlight the features.

Inside the cigarette case is a thin spring stretched across the lower half to hold cigarettes in place. It measures 6.5 x 3 inches and could hold quite a few cigarettes. It could even be used as a wallet or business card holder, or perhaps a rolling tray.

The lighter is in good working order, with a strong spark and a steady flame. The set is in overall good condition. The enamel has started to flake in places but it has been stabilized with a bit of clear nail polish to prevent offers further chipping. The chrome plating is in good condition, though it has worn through to reveal brass in a small part of the lighter. The original case is in good condition, though there is some discoloration due to age and some minor damage to the blue finish - see pictures for details.

By buying a vintage lighter, you are committing to lowering your carbon footprint. Though they may take more maintenance than a modern disposable lighter, these lighters were meant to be used for a lifetime. They can be refilled with flint and lighter fluid time and time again, the wick and wadding can be replaced when necessary, and are eternally fixable. Buy a reusable lighter, and help cut down on the excess of plastic waste.

Lighter will ship with a flint installed, just remove the large fuel screw, add lighter fluid, and it's ready to light.
