Rare Store Display Antique Herold offers Smoked Sardines Advertising Book Tin

This antique Herold Smoked Sardines box is made to look like an old book and is made out of tin. A great box for advertising! In the 1900's when shop keepers purchased sardines for their stores, this tin would be full of little tins of sardines. When the lid is flipped up, a bright attractive advertisement for the sardines is easily seen! The "book" has a rounded spine that is hinged on the left so that the lid is able to be lifted up and down with ease. There is lithographed advertising on both the outside and inside of this display box and reads- The Herold Smoked Sardines H Valvatne Sunde Norway published by M Sunde Norway - B M Shipman New York Sole Importers.
Because this tin is well over 100 years old, there are scratches on this tin and only a couple of small dents. It does also have rust.
My favorite part of this tin is that there is the remains of an old envelope and stamp adhered to the back of the tin.
