Product code: Pocket Drum - Brown - offers Haired Natural Head - 6" head diameter

This Pocket Drum stands ~12" tall and has a 6" diameter drumhead. This drum is intended to played by holding it under the arm, similar to darbuka or doumbek. It can also be held between the knees.

This drum is dyed brown with a natural, haired goatskin drumhead and black tuning beads. This drum has some discoloration of the wood in a few spots. This is possibly due to something like dried glue that was missed during sanding that repelled the dye. These few places are smooth, and otherwise unaffected. Due to these few spots this drum is listed at a discounted price.

This Pocket Drum come equipped with our Instant Slide Tuning, which allows you to change the pitch of the drum by sliding the tuning beads.

Our Pocket Drums are made with stave construction using 1/4 Baltic birch. The staves are glued together and the surface is sanded several times, and the ends are leveled. The bearing edge (the edge where the drumhead sits) is cut, and the bottom edges are routed. The shells is usually dyed, but sometime stained (see product description) and protected with polyurethane offers.
The rings for the heads and bottom of the drum are rolled from 1/8" steel, wrapped in heat-shrink material, and welded. They are tied with a very strong 1/8" double braided rope.
The drumheads are fitted with a two-ring system, the excess trimmed, and left to dry for 2 days minimum. After the head has dried the lacing and tuning beads are added and the drum tension is pulled for the first time. After letting the head stretch for a day or two the drum tension is pulled again, then cross-laced and tied off and the drum is ready.

All of our drums are made in our workshop in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
