These Josef figurines were first introduced by Muriel offers Joseph George in the mid 1940's and were only produced in California, USA. In the 1960's, production moved to Japan. Muriel insisted that all of her porcelain figurines/items be triple fired in the kiln. This simple measure ensured that her fine and delicate figurines would hold up thru the years. Most early figurines have the coveted black eyes.
Porcelain figurines, are called Bongo & Congo from the original California series, circa 1950's. Figurines stand 4 1/2" tall are quite whimsical and colorful. Bongo carries a spear & shield, Congo carries a large leaf umbrella. Both have their black foil sticker, Congo also has the silver foil name sticker. "Josef Originals" clearly marked on the bottom. The figurines are in excellent condition. Any white spots are from my camera. Postage on this item includes insurance.
