Similarly to silver, copper will oxidize over time. My jewelry is made with solid 99% copper and will oxidize beautifully.
You can also easily restore its shine to copper by rubbing it gently between your hands with some salt and white vinegar then offers rinse with water and dry. You can also use any of the commercially available copper jewelry cleaners.
