Horsehair offers raku pot

I decorate the burnished unglazed pot using the mane and tail hair of horses. Right out of the kiln, I apply thin strands or single hairs to the surface of the still extremely hot pot. The hair combust immediatly into a sizzling squiggle which leave these unique carbon markings on the surface. This makes every piece of horsehair pottery impossible to replicate. Horsehair raku offers pots are made from porous clay and so are for decor and storage of dry goods - extended exposure to moisture can damage them. If using as a vase to hold flowers, another container should be placed inside to protect the pot.
